2025 - Knowing our Growing

At Harkaway Primary School - 2025 is all about knowing how much we've grown our learning.

At Harkaway, we exist to give our learners the power to shape their world.

We have a very clear vision of what it means to be a 'Harkaway Kid'. This means that we are learning together and looking out for each other.

Nestled in the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges, Harkaway Primary School is just 4 kilometres up the hill from the Berwick High Street. We are an authorised International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program World School.

Each day is designed to provide the best possible learning for every child. We are careful to make time for connection and curiosity.  By being deliberate about the 'way' the 'what' and the 'where' we learn and teach, our students come to see themselves as confident learners. Our school attracts families who are looking for a community to nurture their loved ones, to challenge them to grow academically and be active, globally minded citizens.  Our students are authentically immersed in their LOTE learning with our Chinese speaking staff. The way we teach writing leads our children to see themselves as authors. Our Mathematics approach is also highly effective.

We've been around for about 150 years, so we've learned a thing or two about helping learners to flourish. We do this through building a sense of belonging in our students - building a connection with our place, with our peers as well as our learning.  Harkaway teachers and aides are exceptional practitioners who develop a deep understanding of each child and how to support their learning journey. We know what concept each child is ready for next - planning and targeting our teaching at just the right level to achieve success.

However, a solid grounding in knowledge, skills and understandings is not enough. Giving children the power to make a difference in their world is the foundation, and the fulfilment of a Harkaway education.

As a school, we value giving families the opportunity to see our school in action. This is why every day is an 'open day' for Harkaway. Come along and experience our children engaging in rigorous, meaningful learning - all whilst having fun!

Please explore the rest of our website. We often update and share the learning stories from across our community.  So check in regularly and see what has changed.
